owl «owl», noun.
1. a bird with a big head, big eyes, and a short hooked beak. Owls have very soft feathers that enable them to fly noiselessly. Some kinds have tufts of feathers on their heads called “horns” or “ears.” Most owls hunt at night and live on mice, small birds, and reptiles. There are a number of kinds, making up an order of birds.
2. any one of various domestic pigeons that look like owls.
3. Figurative. a person who stays up late at night.
4. Figurative. a person who looks solemn and wise, as an owl is supposed to be.
